About AnswerU

So two guys at MIT got frustrated one day with how long it can take to get a simple question answered. As we sat there talking trash about search, message boards and dorm lists, a light went on for both of us and AnswerU was born. We've had some help along the way from people at Berkeley, Harvard and MIT. We have created a solution where college students can connect with other students to share advice, opinion and information. All the content on AnswerU is created by YOU, the students.

Our technology platform is based on a single premise - Why should every question to a mailing list go out to everyone? Why can't it just go out to the folks who can answer it? This is where AnswerU comes in. Each AnswerU user creates a profile (the more complete, the better). We then route questions to students most likely able to answer. Questions about squash get routed to people who list racquet sports as hobbies, questions about specific dorms get routed to residents of those dorms. We are still young, please bear with us if we route questions about salsa dancing to Mexican food lovers. We are working on our algorithms every day.

AnswerU is open to any student with a ".edu" email address. We are currently in 12 US campuses and are quickly expanding.

How It Works

As students each one of us have questions every day:

  • Where is the nearest Karaoke bar to campus?
  • I am a senior and am interested to know what courses can I take that have the least amount of work?
  • I want to join a consulting firm, what skill sets do these companies look for?

  • Step 1: Each user tells us a little more about themselves by building their profile. They talk about their interests, hobbies, likes, and dislikes. We use this information to accurately learn more about you.

Step 2: A student looking for information posts a question on AnswerU and we find the right set of students on campus to answer your question.

Step 3: These matched students answer the question; their answers are reviewed, commented upon and ranked by your community of university peers. Once your question has been answered, it is added to the AnswerPedia where it is available for anyone to search on.

    Getting Started

The fastest way to get started is to register, log in and fill in your profile. Please remember that the more complete your profile, the more interesting and relevant the questions you receive will be.

    Spread the Word

AnswerU becomes an increasingly powerful tool for you as your network of classmates and friends sign up. We encourage you to spread the word on campus by inviting your friends - http://www.answeru.com/invite. You can even share questions on Facebook using the "Share on Facebook" feature.

    Thanks!
